Club Activities
In striving towards its goals, the club continiously organizes various activities, some of which are listed below. They also have a volunteer program which gives individuals an opportunity to participate in different club's activities.
-
Nature Conservancy – bamboo planting and afforestation - JATONET’s Giant Bamboo Program aims to demonstrate and document the significant benefits of bamboo and rattan for environmental conservation, fighting against global warming, and contributing to implementing agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Convention to Combat Climate Change and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
-
Development and Promotion of Technical Skills - JANONET identifies people with skills in areas such as arts, crafts and pottery who are brought on board and exposed to real work environments. Under this program, students join the club as volunteers.
-
CAP Presentation: Training workshop at Local School on Environmental Awareness - In May 2009 Club Secretary David O. Echuku and Events Coordinator Bernard B. Wanyama had the chance to visit two learning institutions and talk with secondary school representatives of their community as part of their campaign to build environmental conservation awareness. The response was overwhelming as the schools unanimously decided to collaborate and ensure the success of the program. 150 tree seedlings were planted around the school property.
-
Bicycle Racing - Bicycles are the cheapest most widely available ground transportation in East Africa and they are know as “Boda Boda”: name taken from the English word border. To motivate the community about their own culture and to promote the club's activities, the Club arranged a bicycle race as part of a CAP presentation.
