Leadership Through Service – Teen Summer Quest in Ecuador!

Dates: July 11th – July 18th, 2020

Cost: $2,725

Enrollment deadline: April 11th, 2020

Under-18 volunteers interested in participating in a Quest over the summer have the opportunity to participate in this 8-day Quest focused on leadership training and immersion in projects related to Children & Education and Environmental Sustainability in Ecuador. The Teen Summer Quest will include two volunteer locations: a day care center in northern Quito where volunteers can learn about educational challenges in resource-strapped neighborhoods of Quito, and an indigenous community focused on conservation of not only the environment but traditional Ecuadorian culture. The Teen Summer Quest is intended to give teen volunteers a unique opportunity to immerse and learn about a new culture, while focusing on leadership development and team-building.

Note: While the Teen Summer Quest to Ecuador is not a formal group Quest, it will give teen volunteers an opportunity to travel with other volunteers similar in age during the specific dates. However, volunteers are traveling on an individual basis.

Transportation and Flights

Due to varying airline prices, United Planet does not arrange or cover the cost of flights to and from Ecuador. However, we arrange all ground transportation to and from the airport in Ecuador and for all activities as part of this program.

Health and Safety

United Planet provides emergency travel and medical insurance for all volunteers. All Ecuador staff members participate in extensive health and safety training, and are available 24/7 while in-country. Upon enrollment, you will receive a full emergency contact list. In addition, we register all of our volunteers with US Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). We recommend booking a doctor’s appointment or visiting a travel health clinic a few months out to update your vaccinations. Also, we have been monitoring the situation with Zika virus in Ecuador. The mosquitoes that spread Zika do not survive at elevations above 6,500 feet due to environmental conditions. Because all United Planet programs in Ecuador are at high enough altitudes, Zika does not pose a threat for United Planet Ecuador volunteers.  Read more about health and safety.
