The USA is a large multicultural nation, home to a wide variety of ethnic groups, traditions and values. This is truly a great opportunity for individuals to immerse in another culture and explore a new part of the world.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities in the USA: 1 - 4 Weeks

Individuals from around the world are welcome to join a Quest in the USA. United Planet offers volunteering opportunities in partnership with local organizations in and around Boston, Massachusetts for short-term programs (1-4 weeks).

Community service projects vary depending on the time of year and volunteer interest, but include such places as food banks, teen empowerment programs, homeless shelters, and others. If learning English is a goal, add on extra hours of English classes for a more intensive learning experience. All volunteers stay with host families, providing a more intimate view of life in the USA.

Quest Program Briefs

Participants will work at a variety of projects during their time in Boston.  This will allow the participants to gain a variety of experiences while learning about the non-profit and social sector in the U.S.

Social Work Quests

United Planet works closely with several local non-profits to provide services for people who are homeless or poor. Volunteers can do a variety of activities from mentoring, coaching a sports activity, directing a craft activities to preparing meals or preparing clothing donations for families, organize collection drives.


Sample excursions and cultural activities that are included in the Boston program are:

  • Tour the Massachusetts State House to learn more about the workings of the U.S. government.
  • Tour the Freedom Trail and learn about American history
  • Tour Harvard University and experience student life in Harvard Square
  • Visit the Boston Museum of Fine Arts
  • Tour the U.S.S. Constitution – the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat

Additional exciting excursions and activities can be added upon request.  Some activities are seasonal or based on availability.

Step 1: Choose your Quest. Contact us at any time for help!  We'd love to talk to you. Email or call  1-800-292-2316.

Step 2: Enroll online. Please fill in the enrollment form. Then reserve your spot with a deposit (which will be credited toward your program fee).

Step 3: Meet your Quest coordinator and iron out the details. Once you've applied, your United Planet coordinator will contact you, and arrange a phone session to talk about your Quest of interest. THANKS!
