India Program Details

Accommodation and Food

On the day you arrive in India, you will spend the night at an airport hotel. Once you are at the Quest location (Goa, Himachal, Rajasthan or Jaipur), you will be staying at our partner organization’s volunteer lodging with 24 hour staff assistance. At the lodging, you will receive a shared room with 2-3 other volunteers and 3 meals per day. You will meet new friends from all over the world. You can share your culture with them in addition to learning about Indian culture! You will receive more details about your accommodation prior to departure.

Insurance, Health and Safety

United Planet provides emergency medical insurance for all of its Short Term volunteers. You receive policy information by email prior to departure, and also the emergency number to call if you are treated for any medical issues.  Insurance also covers baggage loss up to $500 and trip interruption due to extraordinary circumstances.* Upon sign up you will also receive a full guide to health and safety in your country. We recommend booking a doctor’s appointment a few months out to update your vaccinations, etc. or visiting a travel health clinic. Your doctor can recommend the appropriate vaccinations and travel medicine. Please see the Health and Safety page for more information.

Transportation and Flights

United Planet’s partner in India arranges all airport transfers and will ensure that you arrive safely to your lodging and project. Volunteers are expected to fly into New Delhi for Rajasthan and Himachal programs and Mumbai for Goa programs.  Volunteers should plan to arrive between 10AM on the start date of the program and 10AM on the following day. After arrival orientation, volunteers will take an overnight train to your Quest location. All travel will be accompanied by a staff from our partner organization. The transportation from/to your project is arranged by our partner. If volunteers need transportation to do errands, our partner organization can make arrangements or you can use public transportation. Transportation outside of getting to/from the volunteer project are covered by volunteers.
