India Volunteer Quests

Volunteer in India

'India will change your life. It is simply something that must be experienced to even begin understanding. Every day is some kind of adventure, be it trying some new food or taking a deeper look inside yourself and how you view yourself and the rest of the world. Without a doubt it is a change that will be with you forever. I recommend it to anyone and everyone who has an itch for a challenge.'

Kirsten Wimmer, Short-term Volunteer in India

Country Information

Home to 1.12 billion people, India is the second most populous nation in the world.. The birthplace of both Hinduism and Buddhism as well as  over 100 languages, it is fair to say India is the home of multiculturalism. Each of the country’s 28 states and seven territories also possess their own unique cultural heritage. Although the economy is booming and the country is modernizing, you will experience many stark contrasts in India. Within the cities, you will see skyscrapers and shantytowns, and businessmen alongside beggars. In a country known for its bright engineers and global companies, it may surprise you that social issues such as poverty and illiteracy are still widespread. United Planet volunteers in India choose from three distinct locations: coastal Goa in the south, mountainous Himachal in the north east and the desert region of Rajasthan in the northwest.

Volunteer with children in India

United Planet works with a local non-profit organization in India which receives volunteers to work on social work projects (including teaching and working with children), environmental conservation and more in three exciting locations: Goa, Himachal and Rajasthan. For 2010 we are also offering two new programs: the Indian Cooking Quest and the Kanjar Quest - both offer unique opportunities to immerse deeper into Indian culture!

United Planet Volunteers work in a group with other volunteers from around the world for between 2 and 12 weeks and live in shared accommodation near to their project sites.

Volunteers take part in exciting excursions and activities, which can include visiting the Taj Mahal, Amber Fort and Jantar Mantar, taking part in a tiger safari and practising yoga in an Ashram!
