United Planet Short-Term Quest: Cultural Activities and Excursions
As an international non-profit organization, United Planet (UP) strives to create a world in which all people understand, respect, and support one another. United Planet's global network of leaders and volunteers fosters cross-cultural understanding and addresses shared challenges to unite the world in a community beyond borders.
United Planet’s Volunteer Abroad Quest experience combines meaningful volunteer work, cultural and language activities, and educational and enjoyable excursions.
Cultural and language activities are an integral part of United Planet's Short-Term Quest program because they increase opportunity for developing long-term friendships, communications, and cooperation. Cultural activities, excursions and language lessons vary depending on Quest location, but all are interesting and unique! Some examples include:
Tanzania
Learn Swahili and experience traditional Tanzanian dance during your Quest. Leave your work and host family behind for a weekend and travel to the exotic island of Zanzibar where you can relax and enjoy Zanzibar's stunning beaches.
Romania
Immerse yourself in Transylvanian culture and learn about traditional Romanian life. Explore near-by Transylvanian castles on the weekend including Dracula's Castle.
Nepal
Experience traditional Nepalese dancing while taking in the breathtaking surroundings of the Himalayas. Trek through this world famous mountain range during your weekends with experienced guides and catch a glimpse of Mount Everest.
Japan
Take part in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and learn the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging. Learn the basics of the Japanese language during your Quest.
Peru
Brush up on your Spanish skills and take part in Peruvian cooking lessons. Visit the amazing site of Macchu Picchu on an overnight excursion.
This is just a sample of cultural activities and excursions that are included in a Short-Term Quest. United Planet Long-Term and Gap Year Volunteers also take part in cultural activities and excursions during their Quests.
