Volunteer in India! India is a large country in South Asia and in terms of population it is the second largest in the world, with an estimated population of 1.12 billion people. The country is made up of 28 states and 7 territories, each with its own cultural background. It seems fair to categorize India as a cultural melting pot, over 100 languages are spoken in the country. Historically, India is also significant as it is the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism at the same time as being home to people of wide variety of other religious backgrounds. Although modern day India has a strong economy social issues such as poverty and illiteracy are widespread. Year-round, on-going volunteer opportunities: United Planet works with a local non-profit organization in India that works with various non-governmental organizations to support social development projects in rural and urban areas. United Planet Volunteers will work with other volunteers from various countries, having the opportunity to learn not only about Indian’s rich culture and history, but about others cultures as well. Volunteers must participate for 4 or 8 weeks and begin on a designated start date. Volunteers are greeted upon arrival and receive an orientation and therefore, must begin with the rest of the group. We offer volunteer opportunities in three different locations in India: Goa, Himachal and Rajasthan. Read more about projects in Goa! Read more about projects in Himachal!
