Cambodia Photography Group Quest

Volunteers of this unique Group Quest will have the opportunity to photograph people, places and history in Cambodia including the famous Angkor Wat Temples, inside local houses and farms, life on the street, Buddhist temples, historical Khmer Rouge sites, and more! 

Dates: Sunday June 29 - Wednesday July 9, 2008 (10 days)

Work: The group will volunteer at various sites such as orphanages or the children’s development village during the days.

Activities: Photography will be the focus in the early mornings and from about 4pm – sunset. Critique and review sessions will occur in the evenings, to maximize the volunteers’ learning. Lake or river experiences as well as traditional music and dance will be included. 

Excursions: The group will visit the spectacular temples at Angkor Park including:

  • Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom at sunrise and sunset

  • The mysterious Ta Prom temple wrapped in 500-year-old strangler fig trees
  • Banteay Srei temple, considered the most beautiful example of carved Khmer art
  • An elephant ride from the south gate of Angkor Thom to Bayon temple

Accommodations: Guesthouse, volunteers may share a room with another volunteer

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must have an interest in photography and own camera

  • Previous experience with or classes in photography recommended, but not required

  • Minimum age 18

  • Willingness to work, learn and share in cultural exchange

  • Flexibility & openness

  • Please note that a moderate level of physical exertion will be required – climbing stairs and walking in the Cambodian heat and humidity

Group Leader: Dr. Jon Ryder, a member of United Planet’s Advisory Board and a Returned United Planet Quest volunteer, will lead the group in their Cambodian experience.  Dr. Ryder has become very involved in the Siem Reap community and has been back to Cambodia several times since his initial Quest Experience.  He brings a wealth of information for the volunteers, not only about photography, but about the situation in Cambodia as well.

Program fee: $2,195

The fee includes:

  • Pre-departure support and orientation

  • Accommodation in a guesthouse with breakfast
  • Coordination of all volunteer work and cultural activities

  • Travel insurance

  • Local transportation while in Cambodia during Quest dates
  • Airport Transfers on the days designated for arrival and departure
  • Entrance fees for planned activities and excursions

The fee does NOT include:

  • International airfare to Siem Reap, Cambodia

  • Any vaccinations that may be needed

  • Personal spending money

  • Visa fee

United Planet reserves the right to cancel this Group Quest if a minimum number of participants do not register for it.  In the unlikely event of a cancellation, those signed up for this Group Quest will be able to participate in an individual Quest.
