Project: Orphanage in Guatemala

There are many children who are in need of care in Guatemala; they may be from the streets or under the care of the Department of Justice because they have been abused or abandoned by their parents. This foundation steps in to help with the children and the families.

The foundation also serves as a center for drug addicts and alcoholics, a place for young offenders, and the elderly. United Planet volunteers mainly work with the children, but other interests are accommodated.

Possible Tasks for the Volunteer

Please note that the specific volunteer tasks vary by time of year, length of stay, number of volunteers, skills of volunteers, and many other factors. These are possible tasks for the volunteer:

• Teach English to the kids.
• Lead group activities, help with homework.
• Do creative activities with the children (go out with them to visit other places, play soccer with them and just spend time with them).
• Play with the children and give them the extra attention they need.
• Teach sports.
• Teach about HIV/AIDS.
• Do some construction work and painting.
• Clean the facilities; plant trees and garden.
