Volunteer Abroad with United Planet!

United Planet’s unique Volunteer Abroad Quest program combines volunteering abroad, language learning, cultural activities, learning excursions, and special Cultural Awareness Projects to provide an incredibly fulfilling experience for volunteers and valuable support for communities in need.  Both skilled and unskilled volunteers of all ages and nationalities are invited to join from 1-52 weeks in 50 countries worldwide.

Health care is one of United Planet’s priorities. We have many locations that desperately need healthcare, dental, medical, and nursing support!

Eligibility:

United Planet invites professionals and students in the healthcare field to apply for programs. Please find a list of our healthcare volunteering opportunities listed below. Healthcare volunteer applicants are request to fill out a supplemental healthcare volunteering application, which can be found on the online application page.

Healthcare Quest Programs

ASIA

Cambodia:

1. Special Group Program: Cambodia Dental Quest – led by Dr. Jon Ryder. Those who work in or study the field of Dentistry are invited to join this Quest to assist the children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Volunteers will work with Dr. Ryder providing care to patients at the Children’s Hospital and will also conduct oral health education sessions for children in local schools and villages. Summer 2008

Recommended for dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, dental and pre-dental students, as well as medical students. No language requirements.

2. Children’s Hospital

Qualified dentists are needed in the Children's Hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Latin America

Peru:

1. Orphanage in Cusco. All healthcare professionals needed, including nutritionists and teachers. Basic-level Spanish required

2. Children's Hospital in Cusco. All Healthcare professionals needed, including paramedics and students. Intermediate-level Spanish required

3. Psychiatric Clinic in Cusco. Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers (MSW/LicSW), and non-professionals with social work experience needed. Basic-level Spanish required

4. State Hospital in Cusco. Nurses, medical students, and pre-med students, as well as other healthcare professionals needed. Intermediate-level Spanish required

Guatemala:

1. Health Clinic in Quetzaltenango. Doctors, dentists, nutritionists, medical and dental students needed. Intermediate to advanced-level Spanish required for students; no language requirements for doctors/dentists.

2. Shelter for Women and Children in Queltzaltenango. Psychologists, teachers, non-healthcare professionals needed. Basic to intermediate-level Spanish required

Chile: Health Clinic in Santiago. All Healthcare and non-healthcare professionals, as well as medical students needed. Advanced-level or fluent Spanish required

Costa Rica:

1. Emergency Room/Health Clinic in Monteverde. All Healthcare and non-healthcare professionals (except doctors) and medical students needed. Intermediate-level Spanish required

2.Children's Hospital in San Jose. All Healthcare and non-healthcare professionals (except doctors) and medical students needed. Intermediate-level Spanish required

Ecuador:

1. Health services center for disabled people in Quito. Healthcare professionals needed. Basic Spanish required.

AFRICA

 

Tanzania: HIV/AIDS clinic in Dar Es Salaam. Healthcare professionals needed to administer home based care to those infected with HIV and/or AIDs.
