How did you succeed to gain knowledge and proficiency in Arabic?

Of cause the way everyone learns is different, but maybe some experience can help others.

For me the most important thing is and was to never give up. To keep going, to listen to read. With writing I still have difficulties. Also with building up vocabularies.
