It's free to do a CAP presentation.
You can do a presentation almost anywhere. Try contacting your local library or calling up schools that might be interested. If you find a group that is looking for a presenter, then work with them to set up a time and place to do your presentation.
Presentations can be done by anyone interested in sharing their culture with other people, no matter the breadth.
We encourage using visual aides to help demonstrate your subjects. Props and pictures bring authenticity to your presentation and help your audience connect to the culture you are presenting.
United Planet does not set a time limit on presentations. The best thing to do is plan out your presentation and ask your host what length would be appropriate.
There is a survey we would like you to pass out to your audience. We will use this to determine whether people are interested in doing their own CAP presentations. There is also some CAP information you can distribute so that your audience can sign on as a volunteer through the website or by contacting United Planet. Also, we ask that you send in photos of your CAP presentation so that we can track the program.
You can talk about any culture that you have had significant experience with. If you travel a lot or have just come back from a trip abroad and you wish to share your experience with that culture, you are welcomed to present.
The CAP Tips link on our website provides a lot of suggestions on what to talk about. It is not necessary to answer all of these questions. They are just a few topics you may not have considered on your own.
Religion is a sensitive subject to present. We do not recommend that you do your presentation only about a religion. If religion is a big part of the culture you are presenting, then try your best to present it from a cultural point of view. What effect does that religion have on culture? Remember to consider your audience when preparing your presentation. Clear the subject matter with your host before you present.
Politics are also a sensitive subject; however, it is often also very relevant to a country's culture. Again, we suggest approaching politics from the cultural perspective. How does your country's politics affect your culture? We want you to keep the presentation interesting and lively, but we do not want to create conflict that defeats the purpose of our mission of peaceful cultural exchange.
