Post written by Osée Roméo, President of United Planet Ambassador Club in Cameroon.

The United Planet Ambassador Club of Cameroon is based at the main office of A.VU.DR.A. (Association for the Popularisation of Rights in Africa) and works in collaboration with the Free University Press and the Center for Research on Economic Activities. Our Club promotes social, cultural and economic development and offers a diverse range of educational activities to reinforce our impact on the local community. We are also actively engaged in sustainable development and helping young people to access information and communication technology through different micro-projects. We fight against HIV and increase literacy. We believe that the youth are “diamonds in the rough” and a great national resource; they only need an outlet for their creativity and activism.

I really do love our wonderful United Planet Ambassador Club because I wholeheartedly believe that to build our world we need to share ideas, to be trained, to foster cross-cultural understanding and friendship to support communities in need. Through my participation in the Ambassador Club of Cameroon I came to realize the importance of organizations like United Planet. I know the Cameroon Club will reach all corners and will promote social, cultural and economic development of our country through United Planet’s Ambassador Club program. I strongly believe that through our club in Cameroon and collaboration with other clubs in Africa, we will organise national and international festivals, youth advocacy lectures and volunteer activities both within and outside our communities to promote volunteering as an expression of civic contribution and community service.

I warmly recommend all the United Planet family and volunteers to visit Cameroon, which is situated in central Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean. The country is often called “Africa in miniature,” because of its ethnic makeup—there are 279 different ethnic groups in the country—and biodiversity (equatorial forests and great beaches in the South, mountains and plateaus in the West, savannah in the North, as well as a wide variety of wild animals). Cameroon is a small country of 22 million inhabitants and a majority (58%) live in rural areas. The Ambassador Club of Cameroon is located in Douala, the largest city and economic capital of Cameroon. (Yaoundé is the political capital of Cameroon.) Take a look at these pictures and tell me that you’re not excited to visit my beautiful country with its diverse flora and fauna!
